Salvation Gov’t reveals details of disasters due to oil derivatives blockade

SANAA, Feb. 14 (YPA) – A number of Ministries of the National Salvation Government in Sanaa on Sunday condemned the unjustified blockade on the country by Saudi-led countries, which has negative impact on lives of people, especially the continued detention of fuel ships.

This came during a press conference held by the Yemeni Petroleum Company (YPC) this morning along with a number of ministries and sectors affected by the lack of oil derivatives.

The Ministry of Electricity condemned the coalition countries’ actions in detaining oil derivatives, and preventing them from entering the port of Hodeida.

The affected ministries indicated that drinking water stations are likely to stop within a few days, as well as other vital sectors, due to the oil derivatives blockade.

For its part, the Ministry of Health confirmed that public and private hospitals throughout the country are threatened with closure during the next few days due to the suffocating oil derivatives crisis.

The ministry said that it received warning calls from all hospitals and health centers about the low health services and the imminent closure of their doors if the coalition countries continued to prevent the entry of oil derivatives.

More than 220 caesarean sections are difficult to perform during the next 24 hours, the ministry added, noting that the lives of 200 new born children every day are threatened with death if hospital incubators close their doors due to the shortage of oil products.

The vital departments in hospitals (intensive care, operations, incubators) are threatened with stoppage as well, the ministry confirmed.

In the same context, the Ministry of Trade and Industry appealed to the free people of the world to stand by Yemen for lifting this injustice from the besieged Yemeni people.

The ministry revealed that 1,200 facilities are threatened with suspension or have stopped production due to the coalition’s piracy of oil derivatives vessels, which has negatively affected the industrial sector.

For its part, the Ministry of Transport made it clear that Yemen suffers from the interruption of road transport due to the continued detention of oil derivatives, indicating that more than 2,000 locomotives loaded with foodstuffs are parked in Al-Salif district in Hodeida province due to the lack of oil derivatives.

The ministry warned of the dire consequences of holding petroleum products and preventing fuel ships from entering the port of Hodeida.

On another hand, the Ministry of Telecommunications confirmed that its sector depends entirely on oil derivatives, and now parts of them are starting to go out of service due to the lack of petrol and diesel.

Officials in the cleaning sector explained that the lack of oil derivatives would cause the suspension of all cleaning equipment and the transfer of 2,000 tons of waste from inside the capital city daily.

They pointed out that 18 tons of medical and hazardous wastes were transported from the capital Sanaa and stopping that would cause a great environmental disaster, stressing that the sector had no stock of fuel except for the coming hours only.

The YPC and the ministries held the United Nations and the international community responsible for the consequences of silence over the crimes of the coalition, calling taking firm and swift positions to lift the blockade on oil derivatives.

At the end of the conference, the company said that the coalition countries hold and absent ships of oil derivatives for more than ten months and subject them to arbitrary measures, while the United Nations issued transit permits without effect.
