US State Department informs Congress of its intention to cancel designation of Ansar Allah as terrorist organization
SANAA, Feb. 6 (YPA) – A US State Department official said, on Friday evening, that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken informed Congress of his intention to cancel the designation of “Ansar Allah” as a terrorist organization.
“After a comprehensive review, we can confirm that the foreign minister intends to cancel the classification of Ansar Allah as a foreign terrorist organization and as a global terrorist organization,” the official said, according to Reuters.
“Our move is entirely due to the humanitarian consequences of this classification taken by the previous administration at the last moment, which the United Nations and humanitarian organizations have made clear since then that it will precipitate the worst humanitarian crisis in the world,” the official added.
On January 22, the US State Department said that it would review the decision to classify “Ansar Allah” as a “terrorist group” as soon as possible.
“The State Department is working to finalize the review of the classification of the Houthis as terrorists as soon as possible,” the US State Department spokesman said.
“The State Department has started a review of the classification of Houthi group as a terrorist group, and is working as quickly as possible to end the process and make a decision,” the US official said.
