Ethiopia warns Sudan of impending war between two countries

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 21 (YPA) – Ethiopia issued on Thursday a warning to Sudan against the presence of a third party seeking to drag the two countries into war.

General Berhanu Gula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Army, called on Sudan to reject the pressure it faces to “wage a proxy war, and to commit to resolving the border dispute with Ethiopia through dialogue,” according to Ethiopian News Agency.

“Ethiopia and Sudan have a long-term relationship, and Addis Ababa played an effective role in resolving the political crisis in Sudan peacefully, without harming the Sudanese people a year ago,” Gula said.

He added that the Sudanese army had encroached on the sovereignty of Ethiopia while the Ethiopian government was carrying out the law enforcement operation to bring the extremist military council of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front to justice.

The Ethiopian official described what happened in Sudan as a tragic act, which he does not expect from Sudan.

Gula indicated that there is a third party behind the Sudanese army’s violation of Ethiopia’s sovereignty, with the aim of disrupting the negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
