Several dead as freight ship sinks off Turkey’s Black Sea coast

SANAA, Jan. 18 (YPA) – Turkish authorities announced casualties as a result of the sinking of a cargo ship carrying sailors from Ukraine off the coast of the state of Barton, overlooking the Black Sea, in the north of the country, on Sunday.

State Governor Senan Gunner announced to reporters that the ARVİN ship sank off the coast of the Incomo region, adding that its crew of 13 sailors were stranded on board three lifeboats.

According to recent data, six of the sailors were rescued and the bodies of four others were recovered.

There are conflicting reports about the country in which the ship sails and the nationality of its crew members, as the Governor of Barton originally announced that the ship sails under the Russian flag and all its crew members carry Russian citizenship.

Later, however, Gunner announced that the crew members of the ill-fated ship were not Russian citizens but Ukrainian citizens.
