Sudan sends military reinforcements to Ethiopian border, in preparation for imminent attack

KHARTOUM, Dec. 29 (YPA) – The Sudanese forces reinforced on Tuesday their land and air units on the Ethiopian border, in preparation for an imminent Ethiopian attack.

Sources said that this alert came in preparation for an imminent Ethiopian attack, especially after Ethiopian military masses arrived at the border.

This comes days after the Sudanese Minister of Information announced that his country had taken control of most of the lands that it accuses the Ethiopians of trespassing them near the border between the two countries.

Armed clashes occurred between the two sides in recent weeks, after each side accused the other of inciting and stirring violence.

On Wednesday, armed Ethiopian groups supported by the Ethiopian army launched an attack on the Sudanese army, after a few days of clashes in which elements from the Sudanese side were killed.

The Ethiopian groups used heavy artillery in their attack, which took place in ‘Abu Tayyur’ area at the border area between the two countries.

Tensions have escalated in the border area since the outbreak of the conflict in ‘Tigray’ province in northern Ethiopia in early November, and the arrival of more than 50 thousand refugees to eastern Sudan.
