SANAA, Dec. 26 (YPA) – Security forces on Thursday killed seven suspected members of the Somali al-Shabaab group, a Somali military official said on Friday.
The Somali military official said in a statement published by the media that this occurred during an operation carried out in the town of Garbahare in the southern Gedo region of the country.
“Our forces advanced towards areas where the terrorists were hiding, and we killed seven fighters during violent clashes,” said Garbahare’s operational commander, Adam Abdi Hershey.
“The army had obtained intelligence that there were gunmen affiliated with al-Qaeda on the outskirts of the city,” he said.
At least 16 people, including four senior Somali army officers, were killed on Friday, while others were injured in an al-Shabaab suicide bombing in front of Galkayo Stadium in Central Somalia.
