SANAA, Nov. 9 (YPA) – At least two people were killed on Sunday when a small plane carrying food supplies by air to victims of Tropical Storm ETA that struck Guatemala crashed.
According to Xinhua, the plane crashed around noon, minutes after taking off from La Aurora International Airport in the capital on its way to the northern province of Alta Verapaz.
A body was found at the site of the accident and another victim died after being transported to a local hospital.
One of the dead was identified as the pilot.
“We managed to rescue a person who was on board the plane and was taken to the Guatemalan Social Security Institute, with first, second and third degree burns, and in a very critical condition,” said Gerardo Martinez, spokesman for the municipality’s fire department.
The accident led to the closure of a vehicle crossing in District 9 of the Guatemalan capital, where the wreckage of the plane fell.
