Int’l report: Yemen ranks third in number of displaced people after Syria, Iraq
SANAA, May 19 (YPA) – More than 4 million people were displaced in their countries because the war in the Middle East and North Africa in 2017, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said the report said in a statement on its website.
The report said Yemen ranks third in number of displaced people Syria and Iraq with 160,000 cases.
According to the report, operations by forces loyal to the Bin Daghar’s authorities and the coalition have led to new displacements in Yemen.
The report said Yemen is one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, where about twenty-two million people are needed to help.
Over 14 million Yemenis lack clean drinking water, which has led to a massive cholera outbreak. But as nearly 2,000 health facilities have been damaged from airstrikes and ground fighting, healthcare options are severely limited. Sana’a’s international airport has been closed since August 2016, which has left Yemenis stranded, unable to leave the country for medical help abroad.
