Security Council demands end to fighting between Armenia, Azerbaijan

SANAA, Sept. 30 (YPA) – The members of the UN Security Council expressed their deep concern over the large-scale military operations in the Karabakh region, and called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to immediately cease fire and return to negotiations.
“The members of the United Nations Security Council expressed their concern about reports of widespread hostilities along the line of contact in Karabakh, and strongly condemned the use of force and expressed their regret for the loss of life,” the council said in a Statement.
The statement added, “We call for the immediate suspension of military operations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the de-escalation of tensions and the return to meaningful negotiations without delay.”
On September 27, the military clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan renewed, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, approved the imposition of a state of war in a number of cities and regions of the republic and a curfew, and also announced a partial mobilization.
Prior to this, the Armenian Cabinet declared a state of war and general mobilization in the country due to the events in Nagorno Karabakh.
