Official injured in Lahj assassination attempt

LAHJ, Sept. 29 (YPA) – A senior official in Saudi-led coalition-backed government was injured on Tuesday in an assassination attempt in Lahj province, southern Yemen, local sources said.

According to the local sources, “unknown” gunmen targeted the director general of Tor al-Bahah district which borders Taiz province, Abdul Raqeeb al-Bakiri in an attempt to liquidate him in west of Lahj, confirming that al-Bakiri was moderately wounded.

The Directorate of Tor al-Baha is the main axis of the conflict between the UAE-backed Southern transitional Council and Islah party.

The director general succeeded recently in defusing tension by the establishment of a military operations room comprising the factions of Islah militants and the giants and tribes of Sabeha, however excluded the STC militias.

The STC militias earlier launched an attack on the director general, Tor al-Bahah, accusing him of receiving instructions from the Brotherhood’s operations room in Taiz.

The STC fears that the coastal courtyard of Tor al-Bahah, which extends to the border of Al-A’and, will serve as a springboard for the Islah militants to advance towards Aden in order to impose siege through northern entrance.
