Fighting continues on Armenian, Azerbaijani borders

SANAA, Sept. 29 (YPA) – Fighting between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces continued last night on several axes of confrontations in region of Nagorno-Karabakh, in the fiercest round of conflict in more than a quarter of a century.

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said in a statement that Armenian forces had tried to recover lost ground  on Karabakh front,  by launching counter-attacks in the directions of Fizuli, Jabrayil, Agdere and Terter. But the Azerbaijani army had countered these attempts and “forced the hostile forces into retreat, causing heavy losses”.

The statement stated that during the night battles, several Armenian armoured vehicles were destroyed, as well as an artillery battery that supported the convoy’s movement with fire.

The Azerbaijani army also destroyed an enemy tank and vehicle this morning, according to the Ministry of Defence.

For its part, the Armenian Defense Ministry said that “battles of varying intensity continue, accompanied by artillery shillings  on the part of the enemy.

“Armenian units have repelled attacks by Azerbaijani forces in several areas of the Line of Confrontations,” the ministry added. The enemy has suffered significant losses of life and equipment in some areas”.

According to the statement, Armenian forces “destroyed several armoured vehicles on the southern axis.
