UAE recruits over 1,000 gunmen to suppress people of Socotra

SOCOTRA, Sep. 28 (YPA) – The UAE has recruited more than a thousand gunmen to suppress the people of Socotra Archipelago province, who opposed its presence on the island.

Governor of Socotra, Ramzi Mahrous, appointed by Hadi’s government, confirmed on Monday that “the UAE occupation brought in dozens of armed mercenaries, in addition to recruiting at least 1,000 gunmen to fight the islanders.”

Mahrous pointed out that the UAE has established military sites east and west of Socotra, on the southern and northern coast, and in the airport campus, and continues to build them.

He added that the UAE occupation forces have suspended the usual procedures at the island outlets, especially the airport.

The governor affirmed that the UAE continues to send personalities of foreign nationalities without visas, in addition to the arrival of ships carrying telecommunication equipment and other tools to the island.

The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council’s militia took control of the city of Hadibo, the capital of Socotra, in mid-June.
