Abdulsalam: Signing of accord to exchange more than 1,000 prisoners comes in implementation of Sweden agreement

SANAA, Sep. 27 (YPA) – Head of the Sanaa negotiating delegation announced on Sunday that the Prisoners Affairs Committee had concluded a first-phase agreement to release more than a thousand prisoners from both sides, including Saudis and Sudanese.

On his Twitter account, Abdulsalam said that the agreement was a translation of the implementation of the Sweden agreement and the subsequent meetings and discussions with the United Nations.

The prisoner exchange agreement signed Sunday between the delegations of Sanaa and Hadi’s government in Montreux city, Switzerland, stipulated the release of 1,081 prisoners from both sides as a first batch, in the presence of the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and the representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross Fabrizio Carboni.

The agreement included the release of 681 prisoners of the army and popular committees in exchange for 400 from the other party, including 15 Saudis and four Sudanese, provided that the implementation process will start on the 15th of next October.
