At least 100 killed in Floods in Afghanistan

SANAA, Aug. 27 (YPA) – Flash floods in the north of Afghanistan have claimed more than 100 lives, and the death toll is expected to rise as the recovery of victims continues, officials said on Wednesday.

More than 250 people were injured in floods in Parwan province, which destroyed more than 500 homes and flooded the streets in Charikar, the provincial capital.

Hassiballah Sheikhani, a spokesman for the Afghan National Administration Authority, said that 5,000 families have been provided with food and non-food aid packages.

Acting Defence Minister Asadullah Khalid arrived in the region in an effort to help coordinate rescue operations.

Parwan province is one of the most flood-prone regions in the country, with heavy rains and floods every year.
