Selling weapons to coalition makes UK participating in killing Yemeni people: Parliament Speaker
SANAA, Aug. 23 (YPA) – Parliament Speaker Yahya Ali Al-Raee, said on Sunday UK has participated in killing Yemeni people through continuing to sale its weapons to the Saudi-led aggression coalition states.
In a letter sent to the Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Lindsay Hoyle, Al-Raee confirmed that the UK’s continued arming, provision of logistical support and training to Saudi pilots and others in the military coalition, and the sale of British-manufactured Typhoon fighters makes the United Kingdom participating in the killing of the Yemenis and the destruction of their infrastructure, in addition to contributing to making the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
The Speaker of the Parliament indicated that this contradicts what the UK is said to promote human rights around the world.
He pointed out that the coalition has continued to bomb citizens in their homes, markets, institutions, schools, hospitals, wedding halls and funeral councils, and the systematic destruction of bridges, roads, water projects and fuel stations in a flagrant violation of the international and humanitarian law.
In the letter, he touched on the catastrophic effects as a result of land, sea and air siege imposed on Yemen by coalition forces, which are preventing to enter ships carrying with , food, medicine and oil derivatives to ports of Hodeidah, as well as closing airports.
Al-Raee stated that the coalition, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, bought deadly and internationally prohibited weapons from Britain, America, France and a number of European countries to kill the people of Yemen and completely destroy its capabilities, in addition to pushing 20 million Yemenis to starvation.
He praised the position of a number of members of the British House of Commons to hold the British government accountable about the decision to resume arms sales to Saudi Arabia, despite the court’s decision on June 20, 2019 to prevent the granting of permits to sell weapons.
