Iraq: Turkish recruit and two “PKK” gunmen killed

SANAA, Aug. 9 (YPA) – A Turkish soldier and two PKK members were killed during operation “Eagle Claw” launched by the Turkish army on June 15, the Turkish Defence Ministry said.

“A Turkish soldier was killed today during clashes with PKK elements in the area where Operation Eagle Claw continues,” the Turkish defence said in a statement on Saturday.

According to the Statement, Two soldiers were also injured in clashes with PKK elements in northern Iraq and two PKK members were neutralized in air strikes on the Zab area in northern Iraq.”

The Turkish army has been carrying out military operations against Kurdish militants, which it considers terrorists for years, in response to attacks carried out or planned by PKK elements.

Turkey has built 37 military bases in northern Iraq since Operation Eagle Claw began.

Baghdad has objected to the Turkish military operation in northern Iraq and summoned turkey’s ambassador and demanded that his country withdraw its troops from Iraqi territory.
