SANAA, Aug 8 (YPA) – Twenty people were killed and more than 120 injured in the crash of an Indian passenger plane coming from Dubai with 191 people on board, as it landed during bad weather and heavy rain at South India airport on Friday.
The Air India Express plane crashed at Kozhikode Airport in Calicut, Kerala state, where officials said it split in two.
Rajiv Jin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Civil Aviation, said that no fire was reported on a Boeing 737 after it landed, noting that details of the casualties were not immediately known.
He said the plane flew from Dubai to Kozhikode, also known as Calicut, in the southern Indian state of Kerala, adding that there were 174 adult passengers, 10 children, two pilots and five crew members on board.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was “saddened by the plane crash in Kozhikode,” indicating that he had spoken to the most elected official in Kerala.
Interior Minister Amit Shah said in Twitter that he was distressed when he learned about the tragic accident of an Air India Express plane in Kozhikode.
