US fighter jets harass Iranian passenger plane in Syrian airspace
BEIRUT, July 24 (YPA) – Two American fighter jets approached an Iranian passenger plane in the Syrian airspace, prompting the pilot to change the altitude quickly to avoid collision, which caused several passengers injured, Iran’s Radio and Television Agency said on Thursday.
The agency initially said that an Israeli fighter jet approached the plane, but later quoted the pilot as saying that there were two planes, and that they had identified themselves as American.
The passenger plane’s pilot called the pilots to warn them to keep a safe distance, and that the pilots identified themselves as Americans, the agency reported.
A video broadcast by the agency showed one fighter plane from the passenger plane’s window and comments from a passenger whose face was stained with blood.
The Iranian Mahan Air plane was flying from Tehran to Beirut and landed safely in the Lebanese capital, a source at Beirut Airport told Reuters.
