FM discusses with UN Coordinator aggression countries escalation

SANAA, July 18 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Saturday met with the United Nations Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande.

The meeting discussed the ongoing escalation waged by Saudi-led aggression countries and their tools in the economic and humanitarian fields through preventing the entry of ships loaded with oil and gas derivatives, which exacerbated the humanitarian situation.

The activities of United Nations organizations, programs and agencies operating in Yemen and the assistance provided to the displaced and those affected by the aggression in a number of governorates were also dealt with during the meeting.

In the meeting, Sharaf condemned the aggression countries attacks on civilians, especially children and women, the most recent of which was the targeting of Al-Masa’fa village in al-Hazm district of Jawf governorate, in a continuous violation of international humanitarian law.

He pointed out that it is extremely important to address the economic and humanitarian aspects, the most prominent of which is the payment of the salaries of state employees without exception and allowing the entry of oil and food ships to the port of Hodeidah and reopening of Sanaa airport.

The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of concerted efforts to benefit from relief and food support programs, indicting to the national salvation government’s keenness to provide facilities for the work of the United Nations agencies.

For her part, Grande confirmed that the United Nations is keen to support peace efforts and work to improve the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
