Ahmadinejad offers mediation to end war in Yemen
TEHRAN, July 12 (YPA) – British “The Independent” newspaper said on Saturday that the former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “will present a proposal for a peaceful settlement to end the war in Yemen.”
The newspaper confirmed that Ahmadinejad plans to send letters to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Sayyed Abdumalik al-Houthi in Yemen, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, offering to mediate to end the war.
Many Iranian news websites have reported the news quoting an informed source close to the former Iranian president.
The source, close to Ahmadinejad, said that the sending of letters would be followed by the formation of a mediation committee that would oversee the peace talks.
Arash Azizi, a journalist and researcher for The Independent newspaper, speaking in Persian, quoting an unnamed source, said that Ahmadinejad asked the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, to join the mediation committee.
