EU: Escalating hostilities in Yemen undermines efforts to resume peace talks

BRUSSELS, May 11 (YPA) – The European Union  have witnessed a major escalation of hostilities in Yemen during the past few weeks, resulting in many casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure, the official spokesman of EU said in a statement received by Yemen Press Agency on Friday.

“This escalation is contrary to the commitment of all parties to a political solution to the conflict in Yemen and is part of successive reprisals that undermine the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith,” the spokesman said.

“There is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen, only a negotiated political solution through a united process to end the conflict and restore hope for stability and peace in the country and the region,” he added.

He also affirmed the full and unconditional support of the European Union for the United Nations Special Envoy, who is completing a framework for negotiations.
