SANAA, July 1 (YPA) – At least six workers were killed and 17 others injured by a boiler explosion at a thermal power station in southern India on Wednesday.
The explosion occurred at NLC India station in Kudalur district, south of Chennai, in the southwestern state of Tamil Nadu.
The company spokesman said: “The boiler was not working, we are investigating the accident, there was an explosion followed by a fire, which led to the injury of some workers.”
He added that there are currently no missing persons, and that 16 injured are being treated in Chennai hospitals.
It was the second explosion in the station in weeks, and eight workers were burned in May when a kettle exploded.
The station’s production capacity exceeds six thousand megawatts, and it employs 26 thousand workers.
