Tariq Afash fails to assassinate commander of Giants forces in West Coast

WESTERN COAST, June 26 (YPA) –  Commander of so-called the Southern Giants brigades (al-Amaliqah), Brigadier General Abdul Rahman Abu Zara’a al-Mahrami has on Thursday survived an assassination attempt on the west coast on Thursday, military sources said.

According to the sources, gunmen fired a barrage of bullets at the convoy of Brigadier General “Al-Muharram” during his visit to the frontlines in the city of al-Khokha, south Hodeidah province.

Observers suggested that Tariq Afash’s forces were behind the assassination attempt against Al-Muharram, stressing that Tariq wants to get rid of him so that he can lead the joint forces on the west coast.

Tarek Afash succeeded in excluding Abu Zara’a from his position as commander of the Giants forces at the end of 2018, and summoned him to the UAE on charges of corruption.

Ali al-Hasani was appointed as his successor, but the UAE appointed Abu Zara’a in his previous position as commander of the giants forces .

According to observers, Abu Zara’a’s return to the West Coast is a severe blow to Tariq Afash, who was seen as the first UAE man on the West Coast.

Tariq Afash’s media launched verbal attacks on al-Maharam when he returned from the UAE to the west coast last week, asking him to stay in his military unit until he is considered and his work arranged, before the UAE slap comes and confirm that al-Mahrami is the commander of the giants’ forces.

The Giants’ forces consist of 12 brigades most of them from the southern provinces, who belong to the radical Salafist movement, and most of its leaders are members of al-Qaeda or the so-called Ansar al-Sharia who took control of Abyan province in 2011 and 2012, and Ansar al-Sharia is one of the organizations that is affiliated with ISIS (Daesh and al-Qaeda.
