Coalition warplanes drop bombs on Hadi’s forces in Abyan

ABYAN, June 23 (YPA) – On Tuesday, Saudi-UAE coalition fighter jets targeted positions of Hadi’s forces in southern Yemen, local sources said.

According to the sources in Abyan province, the coalition warplanes dropped light bombs on Hadi’s positions in the Qarn al-Kalasi area.

The warplanes also flew at low altitude in the skies of the city of Shuqrah, the most prominent and the last stronghold of Hadi forces in Abyan, the sources added.

This attack coincides with the announcement made by Hadi’s forces, claiming to make gains on the ground after the fiercest battles returned.

Abyan has seen the fiercest fighting between the UAE-backed southern transitional council (STC) and Hadi government forces in the past few hours, despite the coalition’s announcement of a ceasefire there.

Hadi’s forces said they had made gains in the STC’s areas, noting that they had stormed a camp in Ja’ar and reached the village of Al-Ja’adi in the directorate, which is the second most important city in Abyan.

On the other hand, the STC denied any progress made to Hadi’s forces on the ground.  It also media quoted a military source as saying that Hadi’s forces pushed 70 military pickup vehicles to Mount Sawid overlooking Zinjibar city in order to launch a military operation, but it was countered.
