SANAA, June 16 (YPA) – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced that 77 children between the ages of 6 and 17 were killed during the armed conflict in Libya.
Guterres said in a special report on child victims in armed conflict this year that at least 77 children were killed or maimed as a result of the armed conflict between the Libyan National Army (led by Haftar) and the forces of the National Accord government in Libya.
The UN report stated that the vast majority of these victims occurred during the Libyan army’s attack on Tripoli, which included artillery shelling and air strikes, including drones, as well as explosive remnants of war.
The UN report recorded its verification of 24 attacks, 9 of which were against schools and 15 against hospitals, in addition to 24 other attacks on health facilities in Libya.
The report indicated that the hostilities forced about 220 schools to close inside and around Tripoli, and at least 116,000 children were deprived of their right to education.
