ABYAN, June 15 (YPA) – A senior leader loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council has survived an assassination attempt in Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources said on Monday.
According to the sources, Gunmen targeted the member of the STC’s National Assembly, Saeed Bayunus in Shuqrah coastal city, which is under control od the al-Islah militants.
Unknown assailants planted an improvise explosive device in the car of Saeed Bayunus, as he was preparing to leave Shuqrah city, al-Islahi’s stronghold, heading for the STC-controlled city of Aden, Yemen News Portal reported.
Bayunus and several members of his family were injured in the blast, the sources said.
The blast coincides with continued confrontations with Hadi’s forces.
Abyan has been witnessing fierce clashes between the Transitional and Hadi for months, with each side trying to break into the other’s strongholds in the divided province.
