SANAA, June 14 (YPA) – Residents and a fighter in a civilian task force said that on Saturday ISIS militants killed at least 20 soldiers and more than 40 civilians and wounded hundreds in two attacks in Borno state in northeast Nigeria.
The attacks in Munjunu and Nanganzai regions came just days after at least 69 people were killed by militants in a raid on a village in Gubbio district in the same state, according to Reuters.
Aid workers and three residents told Reuters that militants armed with heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, raided government forces in Monjoenu at 11 am local time, noting that they had killed at least 20 soldiers and deployed in the area for three hours.
The sources said that hundreds of civilians were wounded in the shooting and filled a local hospital, adding that some of them had to stay outside the facility while awaiting assistance.
Two residents and a Combined Civilian Task Force fighter said the militants also entered Nganzai around the same time on Saturday, adding that the attackers arrived on motorcycles and pickup trucks, and killed more than 40 civilians.
The terrorist organization “ISIS” in West Africa claimed responsibility for the attacks on Saturday and the Gubbio region.
