Fire breaks out onboard French submarine

SANAA, June 13 (YPA) – Fire broke out onboard a nuclear submarine docked at the Mediterranean port of Toulon on Friday, local French officials said.

The fire has been brought under control, the official added.

No casualties have been reported in the incident and there were no nuclear materials or weapons on board the submarine, the prefecture said in a statement.

According to a Defense Department source, Defense Secretary Florence Barly would travel to Toulon as soon as possible.

In contrast, whistleblowers expressed concerns after rising smoke plumes were spotted from the scene, although authorities assured the public that the dangerous equipment on board the submarine had been removed earlier for maintenance work.
