SANAA, June 11 (YPA) – North Korea on Thursday warned the United States against interfering in Korean affairs if it wanted to ensure smooth presidential elections were held, after Washington expressed its displeasure over Pyongyang cutting ties with Seoul.
In a statement broadcast by the official North Korean News Agency, a senior official at the North Korean Foreign Ministry criticized the “dual positions” of the United States as “disgusting.”
Kwon Jong Joon, director general of the US Affairs Department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry, said that the United States should be concerned with its affairs without interfering in the issues of the two Koreas “if it wants to avoid terrible consequences.”
He added, “The relations between the North and the South are a matter for our peoples only, and no one has the right to interfere, whatever it is.”
North Korea has announced that stopping contacts is the first step to curb engagement with South Korea, accusing Seoul of its policies that have brought relations between the two sides to this end.
Before that, Pyongyang threatened to close the joint office to contact Seoul, if South Korea did not prevent the fugitives from the North it hosts, from sending flyers to North Korea.
