ABYAN, June 10 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias have taken control over new military positions belonging to the “al-Islah militants in Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources said on Wednesday.
The sources explained that the STC militias targeted al-Islah militants with various types of weapons, and they were able to take full control of Wadi Sala and approaching the Qarn al-Kallasi camp.
The sources confirmed that the STC artillery unit forced the al-Islah militants to withdraw towards Shuqrah district.
The so-called spokesman for the Abyan axis of the STC, Mohammed al-Naqeeb, revealed that the STC had taken control over in the heights of Wadi Sala that overlooking the al-Islah’s positions in the area.
In the same context, a senior commander of the STC militia was killed during the confrontations that took place in the same province.
According to the sources, Mohammed Salam al-Subihi, staff officer of armor Company” in the 5th Battalion of the STC, was killed during an attack launched by Islah gunmen in al-Tarya area
On Tuesday, the UAE-backed militias advanced in the Wadi Mureeb and Tha’alan, near the entrance to the coastal city of Shuqrah.
