Holding fuel ships by coalition exacerbates humanitarian situation: Foreign, Oil Ministers

SANAA, June 9 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf and Minister of Oil and Minerals Ahmed Daress on Tuesday confirmed that Saudi-led coalition has exacerbated the humanitarian situation in Yemen by holding oil and gas ships and impeding their access to Hodeidah port, especially in light of the Corona epidemic outbreak.

This came during their meeting on Tuesday to discuss the implications of the continued blockade and the detention of oil ships.

The Foreign Minister noted that the continuation of the aggression coalition arbitrary measures confirms to the whole world the real goals of the coalition that seeks to destroy the capabilities of the Yemeni people and to break their steadfastness in confronting the aggression.

“It is ironic that the talk continues from time to time about holding consultations between the Yemeni parties to reach a just political settlement in light of the escalation of the aggression and the siege,” Sharaf said.

“Any efforts, dialogue, or consultations that talk about peace in Yemen must be accompanied by taking a number of steps concerning the lives of citizens”, he added.

The Oil Minister affirmed that at a time the world witnessed a significant decline in oil prices, the aggression countries increased their blockade and prevented the entry of ships loaded with oil derivatives into the port of Hodeidah so that the Yemeni citizen does not benefit from international prices and cause his suffering to double.

The two ministers stressed the importance of implementing a diplomatic campaign to expose the crimes of the aggression countries, and calling on the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen Martin Griffiths and the countries sponsoring the political settlement process in Yemen to support the efforts of the national salvation government to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe, which is the worst in the world.

They noted that the continued prevention of oil ships entry threatens the government’s actions to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.
