German FM on relations with US: ‘It’s complicated’

SANAA, June 8 (YPA) – German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas described his country’s relations with the United States as “complicated” and regretted Washington’s intention to withdraw soldiers from Germany.

Maas said in an interview published on Sunday that if the U.S. goes ahead with plans to withdraw thousands of troops stationed in Germany then Berlin would “take note of this.”

Maas acknowledged that there were problems in Germany’s relationship with the United States, saying, “We are partners in the transatlantic alliance. But it is a complex (relationship). ”

Senior lawmakers from the conservative bloc led by Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday criticized Trump’s decision to withdraw soldiers from Germany.
