SANAA, June 3 (YPA) – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said on Wednesday that 1 million women and girls of reproductive age are at risk in Yemen due to the loss of reproductive health services.
The Fund confirmed that death may be the fate of some 48,000 Yemeni women due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth.
The fund pointed out that the matter is linked to a lack of funding, noting that it launched appeals at the beginning of this year to raise 100 million and 500 thousand dollars for the humanitarian response in Yemen, but it has so far been able to secure only 41 percent of the necessary amount.
The Fund added in a press statement that “the lack of the required funding by July of this year means that the United Nations Population Fund has stopped providing about 90 per cent of its life-saving reproductive services throughout the country.”
