Saudi-led airstrikes on Sanaa targeted civil leaders’ meeting : Sources

SANAA, May 7 (YPA) – Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on the presidential office in the capital Sanaa on Monday targeted a meeting of civil leaders in the state, which was scheduled to be held in the office, well-informed sources told Yemen Press Agency.

The civil leaders, including ministers in the government and governor of the capital Hamod Obad, were not hurt in the air bombing, while some of their escorts were moderately injured, the sources added.

Earlier on the day, the Saudi-led coalition fighter jets waged two airstrikes on the presidential office in the densely populated district of Tahrir in the capital, which claimed lives of six civilians and wounding 60 others, in an initial toll.

According to medical sources, the toll of the victims is still preliminary, and the number of victims may increase because the rescue operations are still underway.

The Republican Hospital in the capital Sanaa launched a distress call to donate blood to save dozens of the injured as a result of the air bombing on the presidential office.

“The raids caused injuries to a number of students during final exams of the school year, which forced us to stop the exams process,” said Director of Jamal Abdel Nasser School, adjacent to the presidency office in the district.

The bombing caused severe panic among students aged 12-18, he added.

The bombardment caused large destruction in citizens’ homes and shops in the vicinity of the presidential office located in the midst of populated areas, in addition to the destruction of many cars belonging to passerby citizens and residents in the targeted neighborhood, a security official in the capital said.
