Parliament Speaker sends letter to UN Secretary-General

SANAA, May 4 (YPA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives Yahya Ali al-Ra`I on Monday said that “The world, with all its countries and peoples, is closing airports and all ports, in order to avoid the spread of the Corona pandemic, which threatens all of humanity.”

This came in a second letter he sent to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in which he affirmed that the aggression coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE supports the opening of Yemeni airports, especially the airports of Aden, Sayoun and Al-Rayyan, not with the aim of breaking the blockade but rather to encourage and push travelers, especially those suspected of having Corona, in an attempt to spread the epidemic among Yemenis.

At a time the officials of the countries of the aggression coalition announced that they will stop their war against the Yemeni people, the warplanes of the aggression countries launched thousands of raids that targeted the infrastructure and private and public facilities, the last of which was targeting of locomotives loaded with foodstuffs at Afar Customs in Bayda province.

In his letter, the Speaker of the House condemned the aggression coalition’s attack on locomotives at the Afar customs port, considering it a flagrant violation of norms, covenants and international humanitarian law.

Al-Ra’i expressed his hope that the UN Secretary-General would assume legal and humanitarian responsibility and take the necessary measures to pressure the aggression coalition countries to stop the aggressive war against the Yemeni people and break the siege.
