HADRAMOUT, April 29 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Tuesday continued its escalation in Hadramout province, which is one of the most important oil regions in eastern Yemen.
This came after the STC’s declaration of autonomy in the occupied southern provinces, in an indication of the expansion of its influence.
Separate areas in Hadramout witnessed night demonstrations in protest against the Electricity outages during the nights of Ramadan. The demonstrators raised the flags of the STC and pictures of some of its leaders and demanded support for the Council’s autonomy statement, according to local sources.
The demonstrations were launched in Mukalla and Shehr districts, where the demonstrators burned tires and cut the streets, and some of them chanted slogans to bring down the governor Faraj al-Bahsni appointed by Hadi government.
This is the second demonstration within two days, after the STC protests in Mukalla on Monday.
In the same context, the so-called leadership of the “STC branch” in Hadramout, during its meeting, put new conditions on the governor, the most prominent of which is his direct supervision of the province’s resources and the application of a self-management system to the resources.
Political observers believe that the escalation in Hadramout is an attempt by the UAE to transfer chaos from Aden to the eastern provinces, which are witnessing a popular cohesion rejecting the occupation and all forces affiliated with Saudi-led coalition.
