SANAA, April 21 (YPA) – Minister of Industry and Trade Abdulwahab al-Durrah on Tuesday confirmed the state’s interest in encouraging the production and export of coffee as one of the most important cash crops.
During his meeting with Chairman and members of the Cooperative Union of Coffee Producers Associations, al-Durrah indicated to the Ministry’s efforts to protect Yemeni coffee, as one of the most important crops that contribute to providing the public treasury with hard currency.
He pointed out that the decision to ban the import of coffee, its husks and yields is part of efforts to protect the domestic product from competition, according to the External Trade Law No. 16 of 2007.
The Minister of Industry praised the Union’s efforts and its role in supporting the efforts of the state and the government to organize production and export operations and encouraging farmers to expand its cultivation
Al-Durrah confirmed the ministry’s readiness to provide facilities for the union, farmers and exporters in a manner that ensures ease of export and protection of the local product.
