UAE reinforcements in Socotra escalate tensions with Saudi

SANAA, May 6 (YPA) – Local residents and officials said that UAE occupation forces’ reinforcements into the Island of Socotra have increased tensions between rival forces backed by UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The move came after fierce differences between the rival forces over controlling the island.

The UAE had sent military reinforcements, including tanks and armored vehicles to the airport of Socotra province.

The reinforcement came simultaneously with an official visit to the Yemeni island by Saudi-backed members of Ben Daghr’s authorities, including Ahmed ben Daghr himself, after which Ben Daghr and his comrades were besieged by the UAE occupation forces.

The Saudi-led coalition and UAE have been intervening in the Yemeni internal affairs since March 2015.
