SANAA, April 14 (YPA) – The Libyan National Army, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar shot down a Turkish drone plane that took off from the Maitiqa military base in the capital Tripoli, the Libyan National Army (LNA) said Tuesday.
The Libyan National Army’s Military Information Unit confirmed on Twitter that “The air defense platforms of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces targeted and shot down a Turkish drone aircraft that took off from the Military Base of Maitiqa, and dowend in the south of the capital.”
Earlier, The Libyan National Army announced that air defenses shot down two Turkish drones near the western city of Tarhuna and Azizia belonging to Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA)
Turkey provides significant military support to the forces of the Government of National Accord in Tripoli, whether by sending military advisers, soldiers or weapons, and the drones are among the most important weapons used by LGNA forces in their battles with the Libyan National Army forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
Libya is deeply divided in state institutions, between the east, which is run by the House of Representatives and the National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and the West, run by the presidential council of the Government of Reconciliation, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, which is internationally recognized but has not won the confidence of parliament.
