International researchers warn of cholera outbreak in Yemen
SANAA, May 5 (YPA) – International researchers warned of the return of a cholera epidemic in Yemen coinciding with the onset of the rainy season.
The researchers urgently called on Yemeni officials, donors and international partners to reduce the risk of a new wave of cholera predicated in the country.
” An immediate strengthening of measures to mitigate risks should be carried out, including launching of vaccination campaigns, distribution of equipment for water purification and rehabilitation of sewage infrastructure.” The researched stressed.
The International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC, earlier, spoke about the lack of health infrastructure in Yemen.
“By the end of the year 2017, only 45 percent of the health infrastructure in Yemen was functioning” president of ICRC, Peter Maurer, said.
