Filipino soldier, 2 militants killed in clashes in Philippines
SANAA, March 3 (YPA) A Filipino soldier and two militants were killed on Tuesday in an armed attack in Maguindanao Province, southern Philippines.
“One soldier was killed and three others were injured in the attack in the town of Ampatuan,” Xinhua quoted Colonel Diosdado Carrion, commander of the Philippine Army’s Special Task Force in Central Mindanao, as saying.
Carrion added in a statement that the Philippine Special Forces launched a focused military operation against an armed group loyal to “ISIS”, using air and artillery shelling.
The southern Philippines is witnessing the spread of armed takfiri groups such as the Abu Sayyaf group and the freedom fighters of the Bangsamuru group, which are behind the series of bombings, robberies and killings in the region.
