Coronavirus death cases in China rise to 2,118

SANAA, Feb. 20 (YPA) – The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country has risen to 2,118, the National Health Commission of China announced on Thursday.

The number of infected reached 74,576, she said, adding that some 16,155,000 people have recovered after treatment.

“The Health Commission of China has received data from 31 provinces confirming that 74,576 people have been infected, and currently we have 56,303 patients, including 11,864 in critical health, and 2,118 people have died of the virus,” the National Health Commission of China said in a statement.

China’s National Health Commission also noted that 16,155 people had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

On December 31, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of the outbreak of coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan city, in the central part of the country, and has since spread the virus to several countries.

China’s State Health Commission announced Wednesday that the transmission of the new coronavirus could be carried out through aerosols if it is highly concentrated in rooms and closed buildings.
