Japan plans to start trials of HIV medications to treat coronavirus

SANAA, Feb. 18 (YPA) – Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga announced on Tuesday that Japan aims to start testing a new HIV virus to treat the new coronavirus.

“We are now preparing to start clinical trials using a special drug (with HIV) to treat the new corona virus,” Suga, a government spokesman, said in a daily news briefing.

The spokesman did not say how long the new drug might take to be approved, according to Reuters.

Japan has reported more than 500 cases of coronavirus, more than 450 of them in a cruise ship docked in Yokohama.

The number of deaths as a result of the outbreak of the Corona virus in China reached 1,868 people, while the number of infected people increased to more than 72 thousand infected, according to the Chinese Health Committee.
