Lise Grande: Coalition’s air raids on civilians in Jawf is terrible
SANAA, Feb. 16 (YPA) – The U.N. humanitarian coordinator for Yemen Liz Grande, described the raids targeting civilians in Jawf province as “terrible”.
Grande said in a statement on Sunday that the initial field reports indicate that 31 civilians were killed and 12 others were injured as a result of raids that struck Haija area of Masloub district on Saturday.
“We express our deep condolences to the families of the dead and call for the speedy recovery of all the wounded from their injuries in these terrible raids,” she said.
“Many people are killed in Yemen and this is an unjustifiable tragedy,” the UN official added, stressing that parties resorting to the use of force are obligated to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.
“Five years of this conflict have passed and the belligerents are still unable to fulfill this responsibility. This is shocking,” she said.
