SANAA, Feb. 8 (YPA) – Massive forest fires have broken out in Iran’s northern province of Galin located in the north of the country, the official IRNA news agency reported on Saturday.
According to the agency the Iranian government is trying to control the fires, which have spread to other areas.
The head of the natural resources department in Galin province, said that the fires broke out in forests of Talash, a critical area, and government agencies are trying to contain them.
The official said the fires have been extended to other forests reaching several others area.
He adding that “controlling these fires is very difficult due to the speed of the wind.”
Forest fires have been contained, with the exception of Rodbar blocks, and the Iranian authorities are currently trying to control the rest of the fires, the agency said.
About 6 hectares of forest area in the province have been burned in the past seven hours, and the timely presence of fire fighters has prevented the fires from spreading, said Mohamed Gurbani, head of the Natural Resources Conservation Unit in Galin.
The Agency noted that Galin province is one of the finest and best agricultural land in the country, and contains about 6,000 hectares of forest and the like of grasslands.
