Coronavirus deaths rise to 492 in China

SANAA, Feb. 5 (YPA) – The death toll from the coronavirus in China has risen to 492, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

“As of midnight on 4 February, China’s National Health Commission had obtained data from 31 provinces that the number of infected had reached 24,324, including 3,219 critical cases, 490 people dead and 892 recovering,” the National Health Commission of China said in a statement.

The statement noted that 3,800 new cases were detected yesterday in the country, stressing that 18 new cases were recorded in Hong Kong and one of them died, in Macao 10 infections and 11 in Taiwan were reported

According to the statement, 23,200 new cases have been suspected and are being constantly examined and monitored, and 185.5,000 people are in close contact with cases of coronavirus and are now under surveillance and follow-up.

On 31 December, Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of an outbreak of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus in Wuhan city, in the central part of the country.

China has taken tough measures to prevent the spread of the virus, including quarantining more than 50 million people in Wuhan city and isolating Hubei, the central province and capital of Wuhan.
