SOCOTRA, Jan. 2 (YPA) – The General Council of People of Socotra and Mahra on Wednesday opened its first camp in Hadibo city, the capital of Socotra Island province.
The Cultural Center of People of Socotra and Mahra published a picture showing the council’s head Abdullah Isa bin Afrar while inaugurating the camp in Hadibo.
In his speech to the recruits, bin Afrar said the camp was established based on an agreement with all Yemeni forces and parties, affirming that “the council does not seek to establish militia, but to support security on the island.”
The inauguration of this camp in Socotra by bin Afrar, who lives in the Sultanate of Oman and holds its nationality, comes in light of the expansion of the conflict between Hadi’s government and the UAE-backed militias, and after US forces had arrived on the island, amid news about preparations for the establishment of a military base.
