Water Minister discusses with Socotra Governor environmental situation on island
SANAA, Dec. 22 (YPA) – Minister of Water and Environment Nabil Abdullah al-Wazir on Sunday discussed with Governor of Socotra Archipelago province Hasiem al-Socatri aspects related to the environmental situation in the province.
The meeting reviewed the sabotage actions on Socotra Island by the aggression coalition led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The meeting touched on the aggression coalition’s persistence on destroying the unique biological diversity of the island, which is one of the world reserves registered within ESCWA, through displacing its rare plants and animals in front of the full view of the world.
Al-Wazir stressed the need to take the necessary measures to stop these criminal acts and communicate with the concerned UN and international organizations to inform them of what Socotra is exposed to.
He directed the Public Authority for Environmental Protection to prepare an integrated report on the developments of the environmental situation in the island.
For his part, Socotra governor praised the minister’s efforts to preserve the natural features, environment and unique diversity of the island.
