Al-Houthi reveals manipulation of UN organizations with donor funds

SANAA, Nov. 23 (YPA) – Member of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Ali al-Houthi on Friday revealed facts on big manipulation of tens of millions of dollars of donor funds to Yemen by UN organizations in a way does not serve Yemeni citizens.

Al-Houthi implicitly accused the UN organizations of corruption, saying in two tweets after midnight Friday: “There is a large manipulation of donor funds by organizations that not accept to allocate them to serve citizens.”

“The list is full of money-draining projects,” he said, calling on the United Nations to “form a committee for investigation”.

The Political Council Member mentioned a shocking list of examples of UN agencies’ spending in the country from the donor allocations to Yemen.

“As an example of organizations’ manipulation: a child biscuit project, its internal transport fee was set at $ 12 million,” he said.

The second example is “Foot Project” to purchase crutches with a grant of 12 million euros, the value of the crutches is $ 100,000, and the rest of the amount was spent as expenses by the international organization.

He added that one of the projects submitted, which was objected as before, was also two projects for the dissemination of two phone messages dedicated to a province for one time only for 600,000 dollars. “The 1st message was wash your hands after eating, and the 2nd was wash your children when changing diapers.”
