UN, Gov’t form operating room to face “Kyarr”, “Maha” effects

SANAA, Oct. 31 (YPA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Thursday chaired a joint government meeting with several UN organizations to discuss emergency measures to face effects of the hurricanes Kyarr and Maha on Socotra Island and Yemen southeast coast.

At the meeting, it was agreed to form a joint operating room from the concerned government agencies and UN organization and ICRC to follow up the developments of the two hurricanes and mobilize and coordinate emergency efforts to face the expected effects, starting work as of the day, Thursday.

The indicators and cautionary data related to both hurricanes Kyarr and Maha were reviewed during the meeting.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of early readiness by government agencies and relevant international organizations and the continuous coordination to address the potential catastrophic effects and provide relief for those affected.

Dr. bin Habtoor expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the organizations participating in facing the effects of the previous cyclone in a number of provinces.
